From the soils to the movement of air on the mountains to the angle and access to the sun, mountain winegrowing presents a unique set of challenges. Yet with exceptional challenges come exceptional rewards. The grapes grown in mountain vineyards have concentrated character and flavor, naturally high acidity, and a structural component that is unrivaled. The resulting wines have incredible weight and texture, a lifting acidity and a backbone of structure that is undeniable and allows for extended aging. This seminar will explore the Wines of Chris Carpenter, who is winemaker for many of Napa Valley’s most prestigious wineries, including Caladan, Cardinale, Lokoya, La Jota Vineyard Co., and Mt. Brave. Over the past two decades, Chris has earned a reputation for taming Napa Valley’s mountain tannins and creating legendary wines from Bordeaux varieties.
