Wissam Baki
Wissam Baki, a world traveler with over 15 years of hospitality experience, is the executive chef at Amal Coconut Grove. In his new role, Baki will be responsible for crafting seasonally inspired and signature dishes to complement the Lebanese restaurant, as well as curating guest experiences for Amal that draw upon his extensive culinary techniques. An expert in Greek and Lebanese cuisine, Baki has enjoyed a diverse career that has taken him from Dubai to Beirut, Canada, and later the United States, working at notable hotels and restaurants such as The Setai Miami Beach, Estiatorio Milos, Ocean Grill, and Astra Wynwood.
He had a humble start cooking alongside his mother who taught him the joys of preparing meals, bringing the family together, and using only the best vegetables and freshest ingredients. From a young age, Baki learned the tradition of preparing a large table for the Lebanese Mazza, where entrees, small plates, and hot Mezza were all shared. Taking on whatever job he could find to support his schooling, Baki started his career prepping and cleaning dishes until he landed his dream job at the InterContinental Mzaar Mountain Resort & Spa in Lebanon, where he shadowed some of the best Michelin-starred chefs from around the world.
Originally from Lebanon and a lover of art, Baki graduated with a degree in production hotelier and art. His passion for the arts motivates him to not only create a dish, but to also ensure that it tells a story. He enjoys all facets of the culinary industry, from plating, fruit and ice carving, and baking, to overseeing teams for a thousand-person wedding and cooking at outdoor food festivals. When he is not in the kitchen, Baki enjoys drawing, painting, listening to music, and playing sports.
