Chef Shacafrica Simmons, aka “Chef Shac,” is the owner and culinary architect of Chef Shac, LLC, which is the parent company for Empowered by Food, The North Florida Culinary Incubator, Chef Shac Catering, Life Chef and The Sensory Experience. Holding degrees in Culinary Arts, Pastry and Confectionery, she has now been preparing culinary masterpieces for over 40 years (18 of which have been in a professional capacity).

Chef Shac is an advocate and lover of food, its history, its benefits, as well as the plight of local farmers and communities, who suffer from food insecurity and other food access inequalities. She is on a mission to educate communities and individuals alike to take ownership of their relationship with food in an effort to positively impact their health, wealth, and overall well-being.

Notably in 2020, Chef Shac added the James Beard Foundation (WEL) Fellowship to her list of accolades along with the following:  Food Network’s CHOPPED Champion (2017) and CHOPPED Beat the Judge: Marc Murphy (2020); Keys to the City of Tallahassee, “Out of the Box” Business of The Year for the SBDC; Tallahassee Woman Cover woman (2019); Contributing Chef for the book “Toques In Black: The Stories Of 101 Top African American Chefs” (2019) and “A Place At The Table” a cookbook sponsored by Audi and James Beard Foundation (2021); and Get Shac’d Beverage and Product Line, to name a few.

Her professional career as a Chef has afforded her the ability to lend her expertise to universities, governments, corporations, politicians, celebrities, professionally trained athletes and children, as the former culinary instructor of AMI Kids in Tallahassee. She is also proud to serve as a mentor to many young chefs of color, one of which also went on to compete and won “Chopped” in 2019.

She is a highly sought-after consultant on food preparation and diet (i.e., designed meal and food planning programs for award-winning athletes that competed in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil).

Chef Shac truly believes that health and wealth are intricately woven in the food choices we make, one delicious morsel at a time! Her motto in food and life is to always, “Keep it flavorful!”
