According to Schwartz, the philosophy is simple: The secret to good food is good food. Beloved by locals and visitors to Miami since 2007, flagship restaurant Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink set the bar for neighborhood dining with its menu based on simple preparations of seasonal ingredients and the atmosphere to match. People flock for the delicious food, thanks to a commitment to quality sourcing and emphasis on seasonal ingredients at their peak. The lively bar and raw bar, formidable cocktail and wine program and delightfully buzzy and sunny courtyard keep guests hungry for more. This infectious combination – unpretentiously laid back and magnetic with energy – is what we strive to create in every space we inhabit. With a track from hometown Philadelphia spanning NYC to Los Angeles under Wolfgang Puck, Schwartz landed on Miami Beach in the early 1990s turning heads and tables doing seriously good food on not so serious South Beach. Branching out on his own to open Michael’s Genuine in a then forgotten and downtrodden neighborhood on the mainland now known as the Miami Design District, Michael took home the James Beard Award for Best Chef South in 2010 cementing his reputation for reinventing a fresh approach to food and defining sincere hospitality in Miami. The restaurant group currently operates 10 restaurants from its fine dining roots, now including Miami’s quintessential waterfront restaurant, Amara at Paraiso, and a growing pizzeria brand, Genuine Pizza®. Outside of the restaurant, Schwartz focuses his time and influence supporting the arts and causes such as Share our Strength, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, Slow Food (from which he received its Miami convivium’s first “Snail of Approval”) and Wellness in the Schools. His second cookbook, Genuine Pizza: Better Pizza at Home is due out May 14, 2019 with Abrams Books.
