Sarah Zelcer, 23, Founder/CEO of Purely Baked by Sarah, is a young, spirited entrepreneur with an exquisite skill set in the art of baking. Her cakes, widely spoken about through the community of South Florida, have taken the beach by storm.

Throughout Sarah’s life, she has always had a passion for the culinary arts. Having been born in Costa Rica and raised right here in Miami Beach, it was natural that Sarah had a love for fresh, organic foods, including fruits, and healthy greens. Having a belief in a holistic lifestyle, Sarah has worked her love for organic ingredients into her baking. However, she didn’t always know she wanted to bake by profession. At 23 years old, Sarah has a degree from the Miami International University of Art & Design Institute, and originally wanted to follow in her parent’s footsteps into the fashion world.

After graduating, the Covid-19 pandemic had gone into full effect causing shutdowns of all non-essential businesses and travel. Having lots of spare time on her hands while being stuck at home, Sarah would casually surf the internet and practice cooking. Some of her favorite things to search would be recipes for some popular dishes. She would then try to replicate them and add her own twists to her liking.

This led her to the idea of baking cakes. However, seeing that most recipes called for unhealthy ingredients with loads of butter and sugar, Sarah took it upon herself to search for healthy substitutes. Sarah came across a perfect substitute, an olive oil base. Sarah made it her mission to put together what she thought would be the best tasting olive oil cake. After numerous hours crafting, she was finally able to do it. The olive oil cake being organic, dairy-free, and having an option for gluten-free. Having friends and family try samples, they all fell in love with the fluffy, moist internal texture with just a little crisp on the external edges. To top it off, she added powdered sugar on the surface to add some pleasant sweetness.

This was just the beginning, having started with an original flavor, word spread like wildfire throughout Miami that Sarah’s sweets were a must-have for your next dinner party and special occasion. Fast forward to now, Sarah independently runs her own business from what started as a passion project. She makes over 11 other flavors, and has organically grown a sizable following of satisfied, returning customers, to whom she makes countless delivery/pickup orders day in and day out.

Sarah’s goal is to expand her assortment and to deliver nationwide which will expand her reach to help more people enjoy healthy alternative baked goods and help spread awareness of holistic eating choices.
