With a track from hometown Philadelphia spanning NYC to Los Angeles under Wolfgang Puck, Schwartz landed on Miami Beach in the early 1990s turning heads and tables doing seriously good food on not so serious South Beach. Branching out on his own to open Michael’s Genuine in a then forgotten neighborhood on the mainland now known as the Miami Design District, Michael took home the James Beard Award for Best Chef South in 2010 cementing his reputation for reinventing a fresh approach to food and defining sincere hospitality in Miami. The restaurant group currently operates 8 restaurants including three locations of its casual pizzeria brand, Genuine Pizza®/Harry’s Pizzeria® with a fourth coming in 2020 to Miami Beach, light and airy ella pop café in the Miami Design District and several branching from its fine dining roots including a second location of flagship Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink in Cleveland at The Van Aken District of Shaker Heights, the quintessential Miami restaurant with waterfront dining and fresh approach to bold Latin American flavor at Amara at Paraiso, seasonal Pacific Rim flavors at Traymore by Michael Schwartz at COMO Metropolitan Miami Beach, and Tigertail + Mary in Coconut Grove, an oasis within the oasis of Miami’s oldest bayside village featuring relaxed American cooking.
