Hungry Yokai was born as a food and cooking content creator on Instagram fueled by a love for food and appreciation for classic Japanese cinema and folklore. It was a way I could document and share recipes, learn or sharpen skills and techniques and encourage others to do the same in a small community I was building. Content consisted primarily of east asian cuisine with a focus on traditional methods, recreating dishes I had during my visits to Japan, but I also visited Cuban dishes I grew up on. At the start of the pandemic in 2020, along with with a little help from my friends, I began to offer cook-at-home kits containing hand-crafted gyozas and chili oil. Since then I feel humbled and appreciative to continue to offer our kits and pantry items in addition to pop-up at local breweries with an expanding seasonal menu, collaborative dinners with friends and their local business, driven by seeing the smiles from new and returning guests.
