MAURIZIO LOCATELLI
EXECUTIVE CHEF, Hotel Cala di Volpe, Costa Smeralda

His origins are deeply rooted in Lombardia, the North region of Italy, since he was born in the city of Brescia next to the lake of Garda. After attending Scuola Alberghiera Villa Alba in Gardone Riviera, the young chef travelled around Europe until one day at the age of 21 he found himself in Sardinia. Maurizio was always inspired by the strength and intensity of the South Mediterranean flavours. And here in Costa Smeralda for over 30 years, he continues to delight the palates of the most demanding guests, first as a sous-chef at Pevero Golf Club, then as a Chef at the renowned Il Pescatore Restaurant. Afterwards he was nominated an Executive Chef at Pitrizza Hotel, while for the last 3 years he is at the helm of the whole restauration at the Cala Di Volpe Hotel.

His personal credo when it comes to cooking is “select the best ingredients and try to exalt their authentic taste with minimum transformation”. Given that Sardinia is one of the world’s five blue zones, Executive Chef Locatelli has identified a number of local longevity ingredients that he widely uses in his dishes at the Cala di Volpe Restaurant. His institutional basis, firmly rooted in tradition, combined with creative, international and personal combinations and ingredients allowed him to become one of the protagonists of The Taste of Sardinia by Cala di Volpe, a project that brings around the world the know-how of the Cala di Volpe in terms of service and culinary experience. In fact, in 2016 his expertise won him the Award of Culinary Excellence Marriott Europe.
