Owner Mika Leon was born and raised in Miami, FL. She grew up in a family Full of amazing cooks. After leaving Cuba in the early 70’s, Her grandfather opened Cuban restaurants all over Spain, where her whole family joined in and shared in the kitchen. These are the recipes that inspired her with the concept of Caja Caliente today.

Chef Mika Leon joined the food truck scene in April of 2016 with the first Caja Caliente that was a tiny 8 ft. truck serving up tacos on a 2 foot grill in the Miami summer heat, hence the name Caja Caliente. She slowly expanded to opening up another location in Wynwood in a larger truck with an outdoor seating setup ready to serve the masses offering tropical seaside vibes. She is now working on the opening of her first brick and mortar restaurant that will be located at 808 Ponce de Leon in Coral Gables. That is set to open in the Fall of 2018.

All the dishes at Caja Caliente are made with love by her and her mother surrounded by cousins, uncles and friends that work with her at Caja Caliente. She strives everyday to take the idea and passion her grandfather had years ago and keep that idea and tradition alive while being able to create a successful business around it.
