Cynthia Lee Fontaine
Cynthia Lee Fontaine is the stage name of Carlos Diaz, a Puerto Rico-born singer, actor, activist, and drag queen. Cynthia and her “cucu” won the hearts of fans on Season 8 of the Emmy-award-winning television show, RuPaul’s Drag Race, where she was awarded the crown of Miss Congeniality (Season 8). A fan favorite, she was asked back to compete on Season 9 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. A trained opera singer, in 2018, she released her hit single “Pegajosa” with an accompanying music video. In 2022, she released “Tonight” featuring Shannon Sionna.
When he was nineteen years old, Carlos began performing on local TV shows in Puerto Rico. In 2006, Cynthia Lee Fontaine, Carlos’ drag persona was born. In just two years, Cynthia won two titles, Miss Mardi Gras PR 2007 and Miss Acquamares 2008. In 2008, Cynthia moved to Texas and took the Lone Star pageant system by storm, winning Miss Austin Sweetheart 2012 and Miss Texas Continental 2012, representing her community at Nationals in Chicago the same year.
For more than twenty years, Cynthia has worked in community service and fundraising in Puerto Rico and Austin, Texas. She helped raise $80,000 for the victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico with RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Phi Phi O’Hara in 2017. Cynthia is also a volunteer for the Austin, Texas Community AIDS Resources and Education (CARE Program) as a Peer Support Specialist and Outreach worker, providing services to HIV patients who experience problems with substance abuse or mental health issues. In 2016, she was selected to represent her Hispanic and Puerto Rican community at the LGBTQI+ Puerto Rican Pride in Chicago as Miss Cacica Boricua 2016 for her involvement with HIV Prevention and education programs. Cynthia is also a National Drag Ambassador for Drag Out The Vote.
