Antonin Bonnet, M. Chapoutier, Export Director Americas

Antonin was born in Montpellier, France in 1987 and grew up in St Jean de la Blaquiere-Languedoc (St Jean of the white oaks in Occitan) where his father, both an oenologist and an agronomic engineer like his grandfather before him, was running the cave cooperative. He worked his first harvest at 13 years old and learned the job there until moving to the Rhone Valley four years later in St Laurent des Arbres. There, he split his time between playing rugby and working with his father in the vineyards of the Southern Rhone appellation of Lirac. Additionally, he was studying oenology in Montpellier at the Institute of agronomic studies Agropolis. After being offered a Rugby scholarship by the university of Newcastle-England, he decided to put his studies on hold.

After a few years of rugby, Antonin decided to follow his father’s advice: “In this world, you’d be more successful selling wines rather than making it”. He took a job in Montreal for the Quebec and Ontario monopolies as the first French wine rep at that time since the Canadian government had just allowed non-citizens to work for the SAQ and the LCBO. At the same time, he was studying Business at the English-speaking McGill University.

In 2011, Antonin met Bobby Kacher while in Clos Vougeot, France and was offered a New York based portfolio manager position at Domaine Select. In 2013, he transitioned to Michel Laroche, the famous Chablis producer. In 2014, Antonin joined Michel Chapoutier’s team and has been based in New York’s Flatiron ever since, managing sales for the Americas.
