A fourth-generation farmer and Sonoma County native, Steve’s knowledge of the land is unparalleled. He orchestrates Ferrari-Carano’s entire vineyard operation in five appellations (over 1,700 acres), utilizing labor intensive practices with certified sustainable farming techniques (CSWA certified).

He orchestrates Ferrari-Carano’s entire vineyard operation in five appellations (over 1,700 acres), utilizing labor intensive practices with certified sustainable farming techniques (CSWA certified).

Steve grew up in orchards and vineyards, joining Ferrari-Carano in 1987 at age 21. Since then, the winery and vineyards have grown exponentially in size and reputation. “In order to provide the most attention and detail to every vine, we have to be intimate with the land,” Steve explains. “We communicate well and work together as one, well-oiled machine.” The vineyard crew members have been on the team nearly as long as Steve, and are like family. “We know each unique environment on every ranch and know how the vines respond and apply the appropriate techniques necessary.”

Along with farming, Steve was steeped in a family tradition of cooking. He enjoys gardening and canning with his family.
