Description
The origin of Marqués de Murrieta winery is also the origin of Rioja. Don Luciano Murrieta, applying techniques learned in Bordeaux, made the first Rioja wine in 1852, with the intention of crafting the finest possible wines with great ageing potential. Today, Vicente Dalmau, Cebrián-Sagarriga, 11th Count of Creixell, has actualized the historic winery and its 740-acre vineyard in the heart of Rioja Alta. From 2018, the wines are produced in one of the world’s most modern wineries helping the acclaimed winemaker Maria Vargas, to pursue her quest for excellence.
In this masterclass, Arthur de Lencquesaing, International Director of Marqués de Murrieta, will introduce the tasting with the Albariño Pazo Barrantes from the historical Galician estate, which has been in the hands of the Cebrián-Sagarriga family since 1511, and continue with the Riojan estate, with the signature wine Marqués de Murrieta, then moving to the special selection Gran Reserva and pursuing with the three single vineyards, the white Capellanía, the iconic Castillo Ygay and finally, the "Super Riojan" Dalmau.
