Babe's Meat & Counter

Melanie and Jason Schoendorfer began making sausages and other cured meats after years of not being able to find products that they could truly enjoy.  Originally hailing from Northern Ontario, Melanie grew up on a farm where she was born into a mixed Italian and French Canadian family that regularly made wine, prosciutto and salamis.  After meeting Jason and moving to Miami in 2004, she took a job at Joanna’s Marketplace, a local gourmet market, where she became their Cheesemonger and Specialty Manager. For a couple of years the pair made sausages, pepperettes, hot dogs and other treats at home to satisfy their cravings for the quality meat products they could not find elsewhere locally. A focus on using premium quality, well sourced meat was key. In 2013 Melanie began to make sausages at Joanna’s for their weekly barbeques at the urging of a few of her coworkers and thus, Babe Froman was born.

With the response that they received the pair decided to begin selling their wares at local farmers markets and events to great success. In the beginning of 2015, Babe Froman moved into a large commercial kitchen space to further expand the business and products. They are now found at select local restaurants and at various markets and events throughout South Florida. A retail location, Babe’s Meat & Counter is currently in the works to open by late 2017.
